The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, has received an application from the United States Gypsum Company for a Department of the Army permit regarding the proposed dredging of Columbia River.
The project site is located at the Gypsum Plant on the Columbia River, River Mile 65.5, near Rainier, Columbia County, Oregon.
According to the Corps, the applicant is purposing to conduct maintenance dredging in order to maintain ship access to the plant’s dock.
The application calls for the removal of approximately 90,000 cubic yards of accumulated sediment from the USGP loading dock to a maximum depth of -40-feet Columbia River Datum within an area of approximately 2.8 acres.
“ Dredging activities would remove approximately 30,000 cy of material every 3-years over the course of 10-years. Dredged material would be disposed of in-water, downstream of the project site at Dibble Beach, which is a dispersive location adjacent to the Federal Navigation Channel ,” reported the Corps.
The deadline for sending comments on the proposed project is January 16, 2018.
