St. Tammany Parish Government and the Levee Board have selected Neel-Schaffer, Inc., to begin first phase of the St. Tammany Parish Coastal Protection Project.
The project – a collaborative initiative between St. Tammany Parish Government and the St. Tammany Levee Board – was made possible with $2 million in funding from the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) through an Intergovernmental Agreement.
“This is another step forward in creating a comprehensive flood protection plan for our Parish, ” said Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President . “Our Levee Board has continued to work diligently, with limited resources, to get this project off of the ground, and we applaud them for their dedicated time and intensive efforts.”
Henry Di Franco, Chairman, St. Tammany Levee Board, added: “ The Levee Board will continue to work hand in hand with Parish Government to identify critical projects to enhance flood protection for all of the St. Tammany Parish coastal zone.”
During this first phase of the project, Neel-Schaffer, Inc., will be tasked with analyzing and updating the 2012 Northshore Hurricane and Flood Protection Study for St. Tammany Parish with newly completed and current proposed projects in the St. Tammany Parish Coastal Zone.
A gap analysis will then be performed to identify new projects to further protect vulnerable areas. A benefit/cost analysis of proposed projects will then be completed to determine project priority and viability.
Any funds remaining after completion of these tasks will go toward Engineering and Design of prioritized alternatives, said St. Tammany Parish Government in their announcement.
