Maintenance dredging will begin at Dawesville ocean entrance this week, helping maintain the navigational channel for boating, according to the Western Australia Department of Transport’s latest announcement.
Department of Transport’s General Manager of Coastal Infrastructure, Donna West, said the annual sand replenishment at Dawesville helps to maintain the natural northward flow of sand along the coast.
“The works will excavate approximately 100,000 cubic meters of sediments from Pyramids Beach, and bypass it to nourish the beaches located to the north of the Dawesville Channel,” Ms West said.
“The works, which are estimated to cost around $870,000 are expected to be completed by late May 2018 and will assist in limiting erosion on the beaches to the north, particularly leading into the winter months.”
The works will be undertaken using a mobile plant specifically designed for the project, which is able to transfer materials cost-effectively over long distances.
