Established as a separate unit under the command of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration (USPA), a new branch named Dredging Fleet has begun its operations.
According to the official announcement, Mr Serhiy Bomchak has been appointed as the head of the division. Mr Bomchak was previously in charge of the Ukrainian River Ports Administration.
The main goal of the company’s operations is the centralized navigation support in the waters of seaports and inland waterways categorized as navigable.
Commenting the latest announcement, USPA acting CEO, Mr Raivis Veckagans , said: “ The establishment of a dredging service is one of the priority tasks for the USPA in 2018. This year, dredging will be carried out in the waters of all ports from Mariupol to Reni, on a total area of 11 million cubic meters. Over $47.6 million have been allocated for these purposes, which represents a third of total capital investment.”
“ Right now the branch is preparing a plan of the primary dredging works to be done. In particular, relevant parts of navigable inland waterways will be determined. After that, our proposals will be sent to the Ministry of Infrastructure. First of all, we are going to look at the possibility of dredging works in the Dnipro river ,” added Mr Bomchak.
In order for the dredging projects to be successfully completed, the newly established division will be given the necessary functionality, as well as a dredging fleet. Apart from dredging in seaports, the division will perform similar works on inland waterways too, USPA said.
