Minister for Lands and Forestry, Paul Toole, recently joined Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead, to announce almost $500,000 for dredging work at Wallis Lake and Manning River.
Mr Bromhead said that the dredging projects will be funded under the NSW Government’s ‘Rescuing Our Waterways’ program.
“This funding will help improve the accessibility, health and safety of both Wallis Lake and Manning River, which are enjoyed by recreational and commercial users throughout the year ,” Mr Bromhead said.
“At Tuncurry Channel at Wallis Lake, around 10,000 cubic meters of material will be dredged thanks to $147,200 from the NSW Government.
“A further $346,200 will be used to update the Manning River Dredging Strategy and planned dredging activities in Farquhar Inlet and near the entrance to the Manning River.
“MidCoast Council will match the funding to complete environmental impact assessments, relevant approvals and dredging for the three major projects.”
Mr Toole added that more than $1 million has been allocated to councils across the state for essential dredging projects in the latest round of funding.
Applications for the next round of ‘Rescuing Our Waterways’ funding will open in April 2018.
