Joe Ghartey, the Ghanaian Minister for Railways Development, paid a working visit to the Tema Port Expansion Project Site on Wednesday, February 14, 2018.
The visit came after Ghartey’s meeting with the Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority and the Meridian Port Services Limited on January 30 at the Ministry of Railways Development, where they discussed issues relating to the ongoing expansion project at the Tema Port and the need to coordinate the development of an intermodal transport system (rail, road and sea) that will facilitate the movement of cargo to and from the new terminals.
The purpose of the site visit was to highlight the project’s progress and also to enhance the collaborative efforts addressing any issues or challenges that were likely to impact negatively on the achievement of the objectives for which the expansion project is being carried out.
During the visit, the officials were briefed that about 2.2km of land have been reclaimed so far and the first two berths – which are being constructed as the 1st phase of the project – are expected to be completed by June 2019. The remaining two berths will be wrapped up by June 2022.
The team also toured the site where the Railway Terminal will be developed.
