Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has been busy lately with the infrastructure improvement works including land reclamation, earthworks and surfacing that will improve the Holyhead Port layout and safety.
The works started at the end of January at Salt Island, adjacent to the busy ferry terminals at the major commercial and ferry port in Anglesey.
According to the company, the project comprises construction of a revetment to straighten out an existing waterfront embankment, and extension of a parking area for commercial trailers.
The revetment will require 13,000 tonnes of material, much of it reclaimed and processed on site using Jones Bros’ own crushers, thereby minimizing vehicle journeys required to and from the site during construction.
Groundworks will include installation of new foul and surface water drainage systems, along with high security fencing vehicle restraint systems, kerbing and upgrading the existing lighting. The works will also include the construction of new pavements and resurfacing.
Jones Bros Anglesey contracts manager, Emlyn Roberts , said: “ Working in the water and around tidal flows has particular requirements. Fortunately, we’ve had plenty of experience on big marine infrastructure jobs such as marina construction and rebuilding sea defenses to protect towns from flooding, that we can call on to complete this job. ”
If all goes according to schedule, the company expects project to be completed in approx 30 weeks.
