The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, has just release the latest update on their Lost Island dredge work, saying that nearly 420,000 cubic yards have been removed to date.
Last year, the West Newton Chute Boat Landing was closed while operations began to remove nearly 1.3 million cubic yards of dredged material from Lost Island.
The closure of the landing, 3 miles downstream ALMA Wisconsin: Historic River Town, remains to ensure safety and security while heavy equipment crews remove the spoil to a permanent, upland placement site.
The dredging activity is expected to be complete by the end of fall 2019, USACE said.
USACE awarded the contract to remove around 1.3 million cubic yards of dredged material from Lost Island, a temporary storage area west of Buffalo City, Wisconsin, in September 2016.
The material is being moved to a permanent upland placement site located in Kellogg.
