The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (NRD) and the City of Lincoln, will hold an open house on Wednesday, March 28, regarding the Deadmans Run flood risk management study.
The meeting will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET) Center in Lincoln.
According to the Corps, comments from area residents, businesses and other interested parties are being sought on the draft feasibility report for the Deadmans Run flood risk management study. There will be a brief, formal presentation at 5:30 p.m.
The draft report provides information on the need for the project, current conditions of the project area, identification of opportunities to reduce flood risk, development of various alternatives to reduce flood impacts to life safety and property along Deadmans Run and selection of the proposed plan.
The proposed plan includes widening the channel from Cornhusker Highway upstream to just east of 48th Street (approximately 1.6 miles) and constructing a concrete flume under the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad bridge to allow for increased conveyance of flows associated with the 100-year flood event.
In addition, the State Fair Park Drive access road would be relocated further south to accommodate the wider channel and address current safety concerns and traffic delays.
