The City of San Diego last week released a video of the Mission Bay Navigational Safety Dredging Project.
According to the City, the dredging program will cover approximately 64 acres within Mission Bay, resulting in an estimated 122,000 to 220,850 cubic yards of dredged material.
Dredging will redistribute mud and sand from the bottom of Mission Bay. “ All of the dredged material will be reused in other areas of the bay, including portions of some beaches, so none of the material will be exported from the bay ,” the City said.
When dredging is complete, a massive eelgrass replacement will begin, one of the largest environmental efforts of this kind in the country.
Curtin Maritime Corporation, of Long Beach, California, is performing the Mission Bay Dredging project.
