The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) has released an interactive Story Map tool to communicate the national significance of Louisiana’s Working Coast.

According to CPRA, this visually focused Story Map tells the compelling story using narratives, photos and maps, and conveys diverse and poignant details that surround Louisiana’s vanishing coast and the necessity to create a more resilient coast through the State’s Coastal Master Plan.

“ We are excited about this innovative tool and encourage you to share it with others, to further spread awareness of Louisiana’s coastal story and the innovative work occurring in our state ,” said CPRA in the release.

Within the story, a variety of statistics and photos showcase Louisiana’s Working Coast and its criticality to the state and the nation. Historical references guide the reader through the progression of land loss and efforts to protect and restore Louisiana’s coast and demonstrate the need to protect and restore the $330B -$1.3T natural capital and ecosystem assets of the Mississippi River delta.

Half of the state’s population, about 2.5 million people, live and work in Coastal Louisiana to facilitate the movement of $120B of goods and services to the rest of the U.S. Home to five of the largest ports in the nation, Louisiana exports $36.2 billion internationally.

Altogether, the narrative reveals the significance of Louisiana’s coast and the necessity to create resilience in and around it, to protect resources that feed and fuel the nation.
