Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company (GLDD) completed the 10.7 million cubic yard coastal restoration of Whiskey Island in Louisiana earlier this month.
This $100 million project involved dredging and pumping sand from a BOEM offshore borrow area over 15 miles to restore the eroded barrier island.
The restoration of Whiskey Island is located along the south central coastline of Louisiana and was constructed with funds from the settlement of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
The work included beach and dune restoration using material dredged from the offshore ship shoal borrow source, as well as restoring the marsh platform along the western half of the island.
Whiskey Island is the 5th large barrier island project completed by GLDD in the past several years.
