Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic, and DP World Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation on the river ports development projects.
During a press conference, held at the Press Council of the Government of Serbia, Mihajlovic said that after 40 years, the state will begin to invest in the construction of river ports, and that these investments are worth more than €200 million.
She also pointed out that this company from the United Arab Emirates could start building a new port in Serbia next year, and that a feasibility study will show whether their investment will include location in Novi Sad, Smederevo or Belgrade.
In April 2018, the Serbian Government also signed a contract with local company JVP Beogradvode for the construction of a passenger port on the Danube river in Zemun, a suburb of Belgrade.
A total of €1.3 million will be invested in the project, which will allow Belgrade to double its capacity for handling river cruise passengers.
