MidCoast Council announced today the start of the Jimmys Beach replenishment project, thanks to financial assistance from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.

“ The plan is to undertake the sand replenishment in two stages – placing 5,000 cubic meters each time – onto the Beach along the Boulevarde at Winda Woppa, ” said Council’s Coastal Management Coordinator, Andrew Staniland .

“ We’re doing this to ensure that there is sand available this winter in reserve, should the first buffer be removed by a weather event, ” added Andrew Staniland.

The Council expects that the first stage of this replenishment project will be complete by 21 June, weather permitting.

Sand replenishment is part of the Beach Management program for Jimmys Beach, which provides a buffer for natural erosion events. Previous investigations have shown the use of a sand buffer is the most cost effective management solution for this area, when compared to other hard engineering structures.
