Over $1.6 million in shared grants funding has been awarded to 45 projects across Western Australia’s coastal regions to support coastal management work and improved coastal amenities, Government of Western Australia said in its latest release.
Coastal Adaptation and Protection (CAP) and Coastal Management Plan Assistance Program (CMPAP) grants support the planning and sustainable management of coastal areas vulnerable to risks such as erosion and inundation.
The 2018-19 round of CAP grants has been boosted to $1.05 million, up from last year’s total of $756,540, allowing 21 projects to be allocated funds, the Government said.
The City of Busselton received the largest share of CAP grants this year, with $281,000 for four projects. Seventeen key locations extending from Broome to Esperance will benefit from various grant amounts including:
Another 24 projects have been awarded Coastwest and CMPAP grants totalling $555,000, to improve coastal amenity and address coastal hazards.
Four CMPAP grants will share in $180,000 to undertake strategic planning for coastal areas vulnerable to risks such as erosion and inundation. A further 20 Coastwest grants totaling $375,000 have been awarded to projects that enhance coastal conditions and amenity, such as weed management, shoreline monitoring, and dune restoration.
The CAP grants are administered by the Department of Transport and the CMPAP and Coastwest grants are administered by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.
