The maintenance dredging of the Plymouth Harbor, Mass., is now officially underway, according to the U.S. Rep. William Keating.

Last Friday, Keating announced that the $13.5 million project has started on time.

“ The contractors have a three month window to dredge over the winter, which will allow them to complete a significant portion of the work well before 2020 and the commencement of the town’s 400th anniversary events ,” Keating said.

Under the project, the contractor – Burnham Associates, Inc., of Salem, Mass. – will remove approximately 385,000 cubic yards of sand and silt from approximately 75 acres of the authorized project area.

The construction is expected to take between 3-4 months within the allowable dredge window of Oct. 1 to Jan. 31. The work is anticipated to be performed in 2018/2019 or 2019/2020, reported the Army Corps.

The project will be managed by USACE under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
