Fylde Borough Council recently released an update on the works being undertaken at Church Scar and Fairhaven Promenade.
According to the update, the Council is making good progress on the phase 2 of the Fairhaven Scheme. Works are progressing well, and the main construction works are now in full swing.
Fylde Council has been successful in securing £2 million worth of additional funding, which will allow for the replacement of the sea defenses at Granny’s Bay. VBA has been commissioned to design this phase of work, and the design process is ongoing, the Council reported.
Granny’s Bay is the last piece of the jigsaw in these essential works to protect over 2,600 properties from coastal erosion.
The Council also added that the majority of the construction work at Church Scar is now complete.
“ Following the success of securing funding for new defenses at Granny’s Bay, the promenade at Church Scar has been stopped short to avoid wasted expenditure / abortive ‘tie in’ works to the time-expired Granny’s Bay defenses. The remaining stretch of Church Scar will now be constructed / tied-in to the new Granny’s Bay defenses / phase of works, ” the Council said.
The Council concluded that the Phase 2 of the work at Fairhaven is progressing well, with the piling work now complete. A temporary road is being constructed to transport materials along the promenade, in preparation for the installation of the new stepped units which will commence in January 2019.
