The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Alaska District will host a public meeting next week to present the findings of the draft feasibility study for navigation improvements at Kotzebue Harbor.

The event will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 6:00 p.m. at the Northwest Arctic Borough Assembly Chambers, 163 Lagoon Street, Kotzebue, Alaska 99752.

According to an official announcement, USACE representatives will be available to answer questions about the draft report and the authorities that govern the Civil Works Branch’s mission as well as receive public comments.

USACE recently prepared a draft feasibility report and environmental assessment on the proposed navigation improvements.

The proposed project and preliminary analysis of potential environmental impacts are described in the draft report, which is being submitted to elicit public review and comment on the Corps’ recommendation to dredge a 4,700 foot channel from about -26 feet mean lower low water extending to a dock located at -12 feet MLLW.

The report will be available for 30 days, until February 8th, on the Alaska District’s website .
