The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Miami-Dade County and the Town of Surfside will host a public meeting this week for the Surfside beach renourishment project, part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project.
The public is invited to attend an informational Surfside Beach Renourishment Community Meeting on Wednesday, February 13 at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall Commission Chambers, 9293 Harding Avenue, Surfside, Florida, 33154.
A brief presentation will be followed by a question and answer period, said USACE.
For the project, a total of 330,000 cubic yards of sand will be placed throughout the Town’s limits, seaward of the dunes. Construction is expected to begin by late June or early July, with completion scheduled for winter 2019.
“Beach renourishment protects infrastructure from seasonal storms and hurricanes, supports the economy, preserves wildlife and promotes coastal resilience, ” said Laurel Reichold, Corps project manager.
Stringent precautions and daily protection measures will be implemented during sea turtle nesting season, in partnership with the Miami-Dade County Sea Turtle Conservation Program staff.
