The New Zealand’s Auckland Council has announced that the impact of climate change and rising sea levels on Auckland coastlines will be the main focus of the annual Coastal Restoration Trust conference, set for Wednesday, 27 March, and Friday, 29 March 2019, in Warkworth.
The event, which is themed ‘Living with Dynamic Shorelines’, will bring together industry experts, Auckland Council staff, iwi representatives and interested members of the community to discuss practical methods for coastal restoration and mitigating impacts of severe weather events.
“ Auckland is surrounded by beautiful coastline which is being impacted by the effects of climate change, rising sea levels and storm events. Coastal pressure is a real issue, so it’s great to see the Coastal Restoration Trust and community working alongside Auckland Council to protect the future of our coastlines ,” said Auckland Council open sanctuaries senior ranger, Matt Maitland.
There will also be a free Coastal Restoration 101 workshop at Ōrewa Beach on Tuesday, 26 March. Experts from the trust will share results of the latest research on coastal restoration, said the council.
