The beach nourishment operations have passed Jennette’s Pier and are now progressing south near Mile Post 16.5 in the 8000 block of South Old Oregon Inlet Road, reports the Town of Nags Head, NC.

In the update they said that sometime on Thursday, August 1, construction will jump to the submerged pipeline located near Mile Post 18 in the 8500 block of South Old Oregon Inlet Road.

From that submerged pipeline, construction will move south to tie into the beach that was built earlier in the summer near Mile Post 18.5 in the 8900 block of South Old Oregon Inlet Road.

In addition, the officials added that they anticipate that pumping operations on the beach will stop temporarily on Friday evening, August 2, when the dredge heads to Norfolk for refueling. The dredge should return to the area on Sunday morning, August 4.

The project is still expected to be complete in late August or early September.

Nags Head beach nourishment project is one of the largest locally-funded projects of its kind in the United States.

This $34.7 million scheme was awarded to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (GLDD) back in 2018.
