The Suffolk County Department of Public Works has requested Department of the Army authorization to conduct dredging, with ten-year maintenance with placement of all resultant dredged material at Tanner Park, New York.

The project is located at Ketchams Creek, a tributary of Great South Bay in the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, NY.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ New York District is soliciting comments from the Federal, State and local agencies and other interested parties in order to consider and evaluate the impacts of this proposed activity.

“Comments submitted in response to this notice will be fully considered during the public interest review for this permit application,” said USACE.

The plan includes dredging – with ten year maintenance – of approximately 14,400 cubic yards of material from an approximately 100-feet-wide by approximately 2250-foot-long area, and an approximately 25-foot-wide by approximately 225-foot-long area totaling approximately 234,000-square feet (approximately 5.4 acres), to a maximum depth of 6- feet-below the plane of Mean Low Water.

The dredging activity is proposed to be conducted by a hydraulic dredge and would be delivered to the designated upland diked area via pipeline located at Tanner Park, Town of Babylon, NY.

The deadline for submitting the comments is October 13, 2019.
