The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, completed construction of a maintenance repair on September 20 in Lake Ontario at the west arrowhead breakwater in Oswego Harbor, New York.
The work consisted of repairing 600 linear feet along the lake side of the West Arrowhead breakwater.
USACE said that the contractor, Dean Marine and Excavating, Inc. completed the work one year ahead of schedule.
“The collaboration between the port and contractor, consistent stone shipments from the quarry in Vermont, diligent construction oversight by Corp’s employees, and excellent work ethic by the contractor all contributed to this project being completed one year ahead of schedule,” said Lex Barker, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District project manager .
“The completion of this project will ensure the Oswego Harbor remains open for both commercial and recreational business,” said U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer . “As high water and damaging waves remain a threat along Lake Ontario, I will continue work in Congress to secure funding that will make our shores more resilient.”
The West Arrowhead Breakwater runs 2,700 feet out toward the historic west pier head lighthouse, and protects the deep draft, commercial harbor for stakeholders, including the Port of Oswego, U.S. Coast Guard, NRG Energy, Sprague Energy, Lafarge Cement, Essroc Cement, and private marinas.
