The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a contract Sept. 23, in the amount of $22.8 million to repair the Corpus Christi Ship Channel (Aransas Pass) Jetties in Nueces and Aransas counties, Texas.
The project includes use a pipeline dredge to remove approximately 15.7 million tons of armor stone and 4.7 million tons of blanket stone on sections of the north and south jetties as well as replacement of the concrete cap on the south jetty.
According to Steve Howard, operations project manager with USACE Galveston , repairs to the jetties are being made as a result of damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.
“ Hurricane Harvey made landfall as a category 4 storm with large waves that impacted the jetties along Aransas Pass ”, said Howard. “ It is critical the jetties be maintained to stabilize and reduce shoaling of Aransas Pass and the Corpus Christi Entrance Channel .”
Work on the project is expected to begin towards the end of 2019.
