Construction works on the £3.7 million flood scheme in Stokesley, North Yorks, are now underway, according to the Environment Agency.
The Stokesley Flood Alleviation Scheme is part of the current 6 year capital investment programme. Under the programme, the government will invest £2.6bn to better protect 300,000 homes from flooding and coastal erosion.
The contractor working on the project is BMMJV, a joint venture between BAM Nuttall and Mott MacDonald.
The first part of the programme will see the removal of the ‘downstream flow control structure’. This will enable construction of the new structure at the same location.
During the works, the EA will closely manage River Leven flow to ensure the watercourse flows normally downstream.
The deadline for completion of the Stokesley project is late spring 2021.
