The Bangladesh Government’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the appointment of Jan De Nul to dredge the inner and outer channels of the Rabnabad Channel at Payra Port in Patuakhali.
A meeting chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday approved the proposal on a direct purchase basis.
After the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet, Dr. Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal shared this information.
Shipping Secretary, Mohammed Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, added that the company will conduct the maintenance dredging at a cost of $48.8 million.
Furthermore, the dredging scheme is set to begin in December.
During the project, Jan De Nul will focus on improving the port access by gradually deepening the existing navigation channels.
Finally, this will allow vessels with increasing draft to call into Payra Port, thereby attracting more traffic.
