DEME’s duo put to the test

DEME Group has just announced that their new twin split barges ‘Bengel’ and ‘Deugniet’ are undergoing final sea trials before entering the service.

Earlier this year, the 3.500m³ twin sisters were successfully launched in Batam, Indonesia.

According to DEME, these barges are much bigger than those in the existing fleet. At the moment, the vessels are performing trials that will rigorously test and fine tune every system onboard prior to the delivery.

Following delivery, the two companions – designed and built by Royal IHC – will work along DEME’s giant cutter suction dredger Spartacus.

CSD Spartacus hit the water on November 10, 2018, at the Royal IHC shipyard in Krimpen aan den Ijssel in the Netherlands. The four main engines can run on LNG, marine diesel oil (MDO) and heavy fuel oil (HFO). The two auxiliary engines also incorporate dual-fuel technology.

With a total installed capacity of 44,180 kW, the vessel is one of the most powerful and environmental friendly CSDs that has ever been built.
