Construction specialist GRAHAM has won a contract to construct a new wharf and make land upgrades in the Port of Dundee to service the offshore renewable energy and oil & gas sectors.
The work includes the construction of a new wharf and the preparation and upgrade of over 15ha of land.
Under the contract, a new heavy-lift quayside – capable of roll on/off operations as well as the conventional lift on/off – will replace the port’s existing Caledon East Warf.
Prince Charles Wharf is also undergoing an upgrade after almost 45 years of service.
“This significant investment in the Port of Dundee demonstrates our commitment to bring large-scale renewables and decommissioning projects to Scotland,” commented Senior Port Manager, David Webster .
“The offshore renewables construction facility at the Port of Dundee promises to bring significant benefits to both Dundee and indeed the whole of Scotland, both socially and economically, creating jobs and supporting the supply of low carbon electricity.”
Once completed at the end of 2021, the total quayside available at this specific part of the port will be 485m2.
The quayside, combined with the capital dredging program underway in the River Tay, will allow large semi-submersible vessels or wind installation vessels (WIV) to berth in the port.
The activities are part of a GBP 40 million investment program for the redevelopment of the port.
