Napier Port 6 Wharf project on track for 2022 opening

Napier Port, New Zealand, continues to make good progress with their major 6 Wharf project.

According to the latest update, despite 5-6 weeks tools down during the Alert Level 4 lockdown earlier this year, this vital piece of infrastructure is on budget and on track to be completed by late 2022.

In the recent update, the company has announced that 191 piles out of the 401 are in place now.

Also, 400,000m3 of dredged material has been removed out of a total of around 1.3 million m3, with no exceedance of water quality limits at Pania Reef. This includes 40,000m3 of fine sand delivered to Westshore beach using a trailer suction dredge.

Another interesting fact is that 34% of the revetment slope has been trimmed by the backhoe dredge.

Next, 75% of ground improvement area has been excavated and obstructions removed ready for further ground improvement works.

In addition, 883 out of a total 4500 revetment armour blocks are finished with 510 are now in place using a 125 tonne long reach excavator with a 360 degree rotating grab.
