The Everglades deepening project is designed to meet future growth of commerce due to the global adaptation of post-Panamax scale ships, while ensuring navigational safety and limiting environmental impacts to the maximum extent.
The Authorized Plan calls for deepening and widening various segments of Port Everglades Harbor, the reconfiguration of the U.S. Coast Guard Station, and construction of an environmentally friendly bulkhead along the South Access Channel.
The plan proposes dredging approximately 5.5 million cubic yards of sediment from the Federal Channel and 300,000 cubic yards from the berthing areas.
It proposes placing all dredged material in the Port Everglades Harbor Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site, which is located approximately four statute miles from the eastern end of the port’s Outer Entrance Channel.
The deadline for sending public comments is Feb. 1, 2021.
