Removal of shoals in the North Channel and South Channel will improve access for larger vessels to the marine industry hubs at Coomera and the southern Broadwater, reported GCWA.
The dredged material removed during the works will be beneficially reused to nourish local beaches.
A large dredge vessel will be operating 24 hours a day near the Seaway Entrance and in the North and South Channels – a Notice to Mariners will be issued advising of its locations, announced GCWA.
The authority also added that dredged sand will be deposited seaward from the beaches at Narrowneck, Surfers Paradise and South Stradbroke Island and onto the southern tip of Moondarewa Spit.
This multi-million dollar dredging project is set to begin this June with the completion of works expected in January 2022.
