Next milestone in the construction of CSD Hussein Tantawy

After the successful placement of spud towers on board the Suez Canal Authority’s new cutter suction dredger Hussein Tantawy, Royal IHC has completed another construction milestone with the installation of both spuds.

“The sun was shining down on our team when they installed the deep-blue spuds on the CSD Hussein Tantawy yesterday,” announced IHC.

The CSD is one of two vessels that SCA ordered from IHC. Her sister vessel, Mohab Mameesh, was delivered to Suez Canal Authority earlier this month.

Like the Mohab Mameesh, the Hussein Tantawy is a 29,190kW heavy-duty rock CSD and will be used to maintain and improve the Suez Canal. They are among the largest vessels of their kind and were both specifically designed by IHC in close cooperation with SCA.

The vessel, characterized by its long slender shape and high spud towers, will have an overall length of 147.4 meters and provide a maximum dredging depth of 35 meters.

Equipped with one submerged and two inboard dredge pumps, the dredger will have installed cutter power of 4,800kW.
