USACE officials tour Port of Baltimore

Officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and staff from the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee toured the Port of Baltimore yesterday.

According to the Port’s official announcement, the delegation visited the marine terminals, surveyed the area of study for the Seagirt loop channel, and toured the Masonville and Cox Creek dredge containment facilities.

Inflow from the Seagirt Berth 3 dredging project was in full operation at Masonville.

“Working closely with our partner Ports America Chesapeake, this project will allow us to accommodate ultra large container ships simultaneously at the 50’ berths,” the Port stated.

Four supersized Neo-Panamax cranes will arrive in the summer and the berth will become operational later this year.

During the visit, the Evergreen Ever Faith – a 12,000-TEU container ship – called on the Port.

Kevin Brennan, USACE Baltimore District; Bill Sieb, USACE Baltimore District; Tom Smith, USACE Headquarters, Washington, DC; William Doyle, Executive Director, MPA Port of Baltimore; Bayard Hogans, Ports America Chesapeake; Arye Janoff, U.S. House T&I Committee Knauss Fellow; Hank Gruber, USACE North Atlantic Division, and Brian Miller, MPA Deputy Executive Director, visited the Port.
