Gunde – first vessel to arrive at Baltimore Port after Suez blockage

The Gunde Maersk is the first vessel which arrived at the Port of Baltimore after being stuck in the Suez Canal during the March blockage.

The Gunde is an 11,000 TEU containership.

“Ports America Chesapeake can accommodate it at Seagirt Marine Terminal with our 50-foot deep channel and berth. A second 50-foot deep berth and four more ultra-large cranes are coming soon,” said the Port of Baltimore.

Recently, they completed dredging operations to create the deep container berth at its Seagirt Marine Terminal.

The project, accomplished as part of the public-private partnership between the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration (MDOT MPA) and Ports America Chesapeake, will allow the Port to accommodate two ultra-large ships simultaneously by the end of this year.

Also, Ports America Chesapeake is investing an additional $61 million into Seagirt for additional equipment, infrastructure enhancements and technology upgrades.
