USACE to award South Atlantic dredging contract

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District is looking for a contractor who will perform five (5) maintenance dredging projects across the district.

According to the Corps, the areas of consideration for these dredging services are: Brunswick Harbor, Georgia; Savannah Harbor, Georgia; Wilmington Harbor, North Carolina; Morehead City Harbor, North Carolina, and Charleston Harbor, South Carolina.

The work for Brunswick Harbor includes maintenance dredging with a hopper dredge(s) in order to remove fine sands and silts to a depth of -40 MLLW. Estimated quantity of material to be removed during the work is approx. 1,500,000 CY.

The Savannah Harbor maintenance dredging will require a hopper dredge(s) in order to remove around 600,000 CY of fine sand and silt to a depth of -51 MLLW.

The work for Wilmington Harbor calls for maintenance dredging of Wilmington Harbor Baldhead Shoal Channel Reach 3, Southport Channel and Battery Island Channel. The dredging of approx. 900,000 CY will be performed by hopper dredge. Dredging depth is 44’ plus 2’ of allowable over depth.

The Morehead City Harbor work consist of maintenance dredging of the Morehead City Harbor Cutoff and Range A. The maintenance dredging will require removal of some 800,000 CY of shoaled material that has accumulated in the channels since they were last dredged. The dredging shall be performed by hopper dredge. Dredging depth is 45 feet plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth.

The Charleston Harbor maintenance dredging work will require a hopper dredge(s) that must have the capability to dredge fine sands and silts to a depth of -58 MLLW.
