Getting ready for Absecon dredging VIDEO

The 2021 dredging season has officially begun, the New Jersey Department of Transportation reports.

This time lapse video shows a dredging boat being lowered into the Absecon Creek Channel in Absecon Bay where sediment shift from storm events have made the channel unnavigable.

Dredging in this area will create safe passage for boaters and operators who rely on the channel.

Dredging operations will be underway 12-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week, Monday to Saturday, through the end of November 2021.

An estimated 70,000 cubic yards of sediment will be removed from the channel.

The channel will be dredged to a depth of six feet at low tide with an allowable overdredge of one foot.
