Ekiti State acquires two amphibious dredgers

The Government of Ekiti State, through the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs. Iyabode Fakunle-Okieimen took delivery of two amphibious dredgers at the state capital, Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday.

The two multi-purpose dredging machines are suitable for wetland, shallow water, and deep water operation.

In line with ongoing efforts to address the issue of flooding in communities across the state, these amphibious dredgers will be deployed for flood control, dredging of selected rivers and streams, as well as the widening of canals for free flow of water.

Recently, the Government of Ekiti State embarked on the construction of drainages and culverts at Arinkin in Oke Ako and Ajolagun in Ikere-Ekiti.

The government is also undertaking erosion control works at Bisi Aloba avenue and Temidire road in Ikere-Ekiti.

In Ado Ekiti, efforts are ongoing to address the flooding issues at Tinuola axis, Eminrin, Afao Road, Ajilosun, and Odo Ado, as well as Owode and Otete in Efon Alaaye.

All these are being executed with the support of the World Bank, through the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).
