Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) recently unveiled a video of the Öresund cable replacement project across the strait between Sweden and Denmark.
The video titled “Öresund connection Denmark – Sweden” shows replacement of a total of 30 km of power cable within a restricted outage period.
Last year, Boskalis successfully replaced the ‘Öresund connection’ – four 400 kV high voltage alternating current (HVAC) cables across the Öresund. This power link plays an important role in maintaining the high transmission security of the two countries.
The project consisted of the design, production and installation of four 400 kV high-voltage power cables as well as the removal of the old system.
A number of specialized offshore and dredging vessels of Boskalis versatile fleet played an important role in this project: cable-laying vessel Spirit replaced the cables, backhoe dredger Nordic Giant dredged four trenches in the shallow parts of the route, cable-laying vessel Ndeavor buried the cables and fallpipe vessel Rockpiper installed the rock protection for the cables in the middle section of the route.
