U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District Commander Lt. Col. Kevin Arnett held a dredge safety meeting with Curtin Maritime October 1 off the coast of Martinez, California.
The purpose of the site visit was to meet with management and dredge operators to discuss key safety items. SPN is conducting these meeting for all of its FY21 and FY22 dredging contracts.
Arnett and staff members from the district’s Construction Branch and Safety Office toured the company’s dredge “DB Ironbound,” which is being used to complete maintenance dredging of the Suisun Bay Channel and New York Slough.
This project is located 30 miles northeast of San Francisco and is part of the San Francisco Bay to Stockton Ship Channel.
The work calls for annual maintenance dredging of the Suisun Bay Channel (main channel), which is 300 feet wide with a depth of 35 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW), from the Carquinez Strait at Martinez to Pittsburg; and New York Slough Channel further upstream to Antioch, a distance of almost 17 miles.
