According to CHEC, this is next large hydraulic wharf project won by CHEC in Sri Lanka after Hambantota Port, Colombo South Port, and JCT Wharf among others.

The new terminal, owned by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), will be completed within the next 36 months, reported CHEC.
The project covers the construction of a wharf shoreline of about 760m-long, and 600,000 square meters of yard and other ancillary facilities.
After its completion, the project will enhance the overall container handling capacity of Colombo Port in Sri Lanka and strengthen its core position as a transit hub port in South Asia.
East Container Terminal will be the second-deep draft container terminal in the South Harbour with annual capacity of 2.4 million TEUs, 1200m quay wall at -18m depth. SLPA has already developed 440m of the quay wall, adjacent yard area and connected facilities at ECT.
