Coastal Partnership East, on behalf of North Norfolk District Council, will begin both the Cromer Phase 2 Scheme and the Mundesley Coastal Management Scheme in 2022 subject to consultation with all consultees.
According to the Council, this will improve defences and take into consideration the predicted sea level rise, and will benefit residents, businesses and visitors for many years to come.
The second phase of the Cromer scheme is proposed to include approximately 300m rock revetment west of the pier and repair works to groynes, navigation aids, and additional sea wall protection.
The Mundesley scheme will incorporate improved access at the east promenade as part of repairs to existing defences, a rock revetment to protect water infrastructure and the lifeboat station and rock armour to the west to aid existing structures in minimising coastal erosion.
Cllr Angie Fitch-Tillett , Cabinet Member for Coastal Management, said: “The schemes will make the areas safer and more accessible to the public. The protection against the threat of erosion and the effects of climate change will enable these important seaside destinations to be enjoyed for generations to come, along with benefitting local business reliant on tourism.”
In 2015, North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) completed the Cromer Phase 1 scheme which included a major sea wall refurbishment. It also further repaired the 2013 storm damage and repair works to several ageing groyne under the same scheme.
In 2016, consultation with Mundesley community was set up to outline the proposed works at Mundesley in line with the Outline Business Case and to discuss the shortlist of preferred options.
The Council said that Local Liaison Groups have been set up for both schemes to help engage stakeholders with the projects.
