Coastal Dredging kicks off Emerald Isle project

Coastal Dredging began work on the NC Wildlife Boat Ramp on Monday, May 9, 2022, in a dredging project that should be complete within ten working days.

According to Town of Emerald Isle officials, the contractor will try to keep the boat ramps open to the public, but some disruptions could occur.

The boat ramp, at 6800 Emerald Drive, is the property of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission and is open year-round to boaters.

The $90,000 dredging project is fully funded by the NC Shallow Draft Grant and the State, which means zero Emerald Isle taxpayer dollars have been spent for this dredging.

The project will remove 995 cubic yards of material from the channel, from the WRC launch basin to about channel marker 28.

The water farther into the Bogue Sound and out to the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway is still deep enough and won’t be dredged.
