Silt buildup has always been a threat to those in low-lying areas, as it creates a buildup and can cause severe flooding, threatening the livelihood of hundreds of Fijians.
The works will benefit close to 70,000 residents, a majority of whom live in low-lying areas along the Rewa delta.
