In order to facilitate the growth of the port and development of businesses located in the area, Ministero Infrastrutture e Trasporti – Provveditorato Interregionale alle OO.PP. Campania, Puglia, Molise e Basilicata, recently issued a tender for the construction of a new passenger terminal in Bari. The project was won by Fincosit srl with the Italian Branch of Jan De Nul being a subcontractor for them.
Overall, this infrastructure project includes dredging works, filling/land reclamation, wharf construction, etc.
Being well-suited for the hard seabed conditions, Jan De Nul decided to bring in their newest cutter suction dredger for the Bari Port project.
“Our Cutter Suction Dredger Willem van Rubroeck is working its way through very hard rocky soil. In total, the Willem van Rubroeck has to cut and remove approximately 600,000 cubic metres of rock – to a depth of 12 metres,” said JDN.
The dredging works which started in late May are scheduled for completion by the end of 2022 or early 2023.
