The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District has just announced that Grand Haven Harbor dredging operations have commenced at the inner channel.
The harbor is located on the east shore of Lake Michigan, 180 miles northeast of Chicago, IL and 23 miles north of Holland, MI.
According to the Corps, around 14,000 cubic yards of shoaled material will be removed from the Grand Haven Harbor. Once dried, the material will be beneficially reused.
In general, approximately 35,000 cubic yards of material must be dredged from the outer harbor annually. and around 20,000 to 40,000 cubic yards of material must be dredged from the inner channel on a 2-to-4-year cycle.
Like in previous years, the project will be completed by the contractor King Company, the plan is to finish the works by the end of this month.
