VolkerStevin recently won a £21.9 million contract from the Environment Agency (EA) which will improve flood defences on the east bank of the River Rother in Rye, East Sussex.
The company worked with the client and designers under the EA’s Collaborative Delivery Framework to provide Early Contractor Involvement advice, assisting in getting this key project for the South East Integrated Delivery Team to ground.

The scheme includes raising and strengthening the existing flood embankments between Scots Float and Rye Harbour on the eastern bank of the River Rother. A flood wall will also be built between the railway bridge and A259 road bridge.

The improved defences will mean more properties and the community will be better protected from the devastating impacts of flooding for many years to come.”
Work will also include enhancements to allow natural processes to continue by setting back the existing line of the defences at Camberfields in the centre of Rye, to create 4 hectares of additional intertidal habitat.
