Dutch Dredging – a medium size dredging company, based in Sliedrecht in the Netherlands – is currently performing dredging operations in Puerto Caldera .
In order to make the harbor more accessible, hopper dredge ELBE of Baggerbedrijf De Boer BV (Dutch Dredging) recently kicked off dredging works at the main freight port in the Pacific side of Costa Rica.
According to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Costa Rica, the total scope of activities consists of dredging, surveying and related marine operations in the fullest sense.
The hopper dredger ELBE was built in 2010 and is currently sailing under the flag of the Netherlands. Her carrying capacity is 3.341 DWT and hopper capacity is 2.800m3. The vessel has overall length (LOA) of 77.15 meters, width of 15 meters and draught of 4.1 meters.
Over the next few weeks, the vessel and her crew will work 24/7 to remove tens of thousands of cubic yards of sediment from the harbor. This will allow the port to receive much larger ships with ease, contributing to the trade and economic development of that area.
