DEW’s autumn beach replenishment program will start in mid- March with 10,000 cubic metres of sand moved from the accumulation point at Semaphore breakwater to replenish the eroded dunes at Semaphore Park.
Also, the beaches at Henley Beach South and Henley Beach will be replenished with 15,000 cubic metres of land-based quarry sand delivered between March and April 2023.
Next, DEW announced that West Beach will continue to be replenished with 50,000 cubic metres of land-based quarry sand delivered between April and June 2023. This is in addition to the 50,000 cubic metres delivered in spring 2022 to meet the state government’s commitment to maintain West Beach.
Delivery of sand in autumn avoids disruption to beachgoers during the busy summer period and also reduces the disturbance to nesting shorebirds at the Torrens Outlet.
