Dredging operations on the Kingstown Port Modernization Project completed 10 days ahead of schedule and the reclaimed area is now being compacted.

Next phase includes installation of the Combi-Wall (King Piles and Sheet Piles) Piling System to enclose and retain the reclaimed area.

To date, approximately 30% of physical works have been wrapped up.

In the first phase, the Van Oord’s dredger HAM 316 moved a total of 1.17 million cubic metres of sand from the seabed off the south east coast of St. Vincent to Kingstown, where new land is being reclaimed to construct the new container port.

The Port Modernization Project is the second largest capital project in this country’s history.

The scheme forms part of Government’s urban development program which includes the rehabilitation of Little Tokyo.
