Dredging of the Port of Gdynia inner basins kicked off in late 2022, and once complete, will allow the port to handle the largest ships in the Baltic Sea. The project includes deepening of the port areas from current 13.5 to 16 meters.
In addition to dredging, which will cover most of the port basins, JDN is also carrying out demolition of bottom reinforcements, reconstruction of underwater cable installations, construction of new bottom reinforcements, etc.
The dredging work itself consist of six phases: dredging of the Awanport, dredging of the Awanport and Port Channel in the section between Turntable No. 1 and Turntable No. 2, dredging of the Port Channel, dredging of Pool V, dredging of Pool IV and dredging of Pool III.
Overall, around 4 million cubic meters of dredged material is to be removed from the Port of Gdynia by the next spring.
